Homemade Carpet Cleaning Products
01/01/2014 Back To BlogThere is several carpet cleaning products on the shelves in stores. They all promise to remove stains almost immediately and to leave it smelling fresh as well as clean. These products can become very expensive real quickly; if you have children then there are probably several residential carpet cleaning products under your cabinets.
Check your Cabinets
Homeowners tend to forget that there are some items already in your cabinet that can do just as good of a job as the expensive solutions sold in stores. We all get spilled soda or Kool-Aid on the carpet from time to time. Once the spill happened we immediately begin to think to ourselves that there is no way that it is going to come out. So we hope for the best as we try to get the spill up with a towel. We do not realize that using a towel may make the carpet stain worse. There are some homemade concoctions that you can mix up that will get to remove the stain without much hassle.
An Unlikely Cleaning Item
Believe it or not, using an iron and vinegar can help to remove a soft drink stain from the fibers. You can mix up white vinegar and water to make the solution. Then spray the solution on the stain and lay an old damp cloth over it. Next, you should iron over the towel using the steam setting feature. The steam helps to draw the stain out. You should start seeing some results after the first couple of times that you do it. You should continue to repeat the process until the soda stain has been completely removed. The vinegar and iron together seems like an unlikely pair to use when carpet cleaning but they work well together.
